Wayne Allsop
Wayne made his return to the craft after taking Improv classes in Auckland and was then invited to appear as a member of New Zealand’s premier improvised comedy group ‘The Covert Theatre’ during the Auckland Comedy Festival. Soon after he returned to Los Angeles to study at ‘The Actor’s Corps’ in North Hollywood, where he was introduced to method acting, specifically the Meisner technique spending three fabulous semesters with the Boot Camp team. Later through the Aftra union he was introduced to Robin Brown and his classes at ‘The Niche Theatre’ in Los Angeles and under his guidance, delved into the Spolin technique. During this time Wayne would land several minor roles, appearing on network shows such as ‘Nip Tuck’, ‘Cold Case’ and ‘Rita Rocks’ along with working on student projects at USC, The Los Angeles Film school and Cal State University Dominguez Hills, before deciding to return to the UK to further hone and develop his skills. Over the next three years Wayne appeared in numerous Theatre, Film, Television and Commercial projects, gathering valuable skills and a wealth of experience. His first year was spent working mostly with local and fringe theatre groups around Manchester, where he landed several lead roles, including Brogg in the “Wait”, Mr. Holland in Jack Rosenthal’s “Hot Fat”, Joel in the one man show “The Complex Man”, and as John in “Full House” at the Lowery Theatre playing alongside Jeni Meadows, he would also check of the goal of becoming a cast member in one off the JB shorts. By his second year Wayne started landing some minor professional roles and attained his life long dream of becoming an equity card holder. During that he went on several regional tours, along with ‘One nineteen” playing multiple roles including Tom Yates, and the role of ‘The Man’ in Stuart. D. Lee’s award winning play ‘Dev’s army’ for which both Wayne the other cast members and the crew, received numerous accolades as well as being nominated and winning numerous awards, including the Forever Manchester award for ‘Best new play’ and The Buxton Fringe award for ‘Best new writing. By Wayne’s third year he was starting to regularly work professionally and was making significant inroads and connections with groups and influential industry leaders, landing roles regularly in numerous Theater, Film, Television and Commercial projects. He would go on tours with Ariel Dorfman’s “Death and the Maiden” as Roberto Miranda, and make a return to the role of the ‘Man’ this time for a national tour, playing in Manchester, Buxton, Liverpool, Preston, Oxford and London among others. During this time he also worked on feature film projects ‘The Turing Enigma’ as Jim Skardon, and in the Steam Punk Fantasy “Violet City’ as Gambry. His television credits during this time included the BBC’s Police Drama, ‘Good Cop’ directed by Susan Tully as Paul Gray and he achieved the lifelong dream of walking down the world famous cobbles of ‘Coronation Street’ and ordering at drink in the Rovers Return. He also worked on multiple TV pilot projects including “Clown time” alongside Michael Starke’s, Clown as David Morris, and in ‘The Blue Couch’ as Tony Smedley. Wayne’s commercial projects included on the national ad campaigns for Yorkshire Broadband, and Seven Seas joint supplements. Wayne also sharpened his writing skills writing, directing and acting in two Edinburgh 48 hour film festivals. More recently he has had two of his short plays produced, “The Pro Tem” during 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival and again in 2022, as part of Threshold Theater Season along with “Caught Red Handed’ and he is currently working on two full length plays “The Apple drop” and CALREP included his full length play “The Masseuse” at part of their 2023 season. Wayne continued honing his studies at California State University Long Beach, where he earned a degree in Drama Performance, summa cum laude.
